Malta’s theatre has achieved a new milestone with Mid-Djarju ta’ Student fi Skola tal-Knisja, Jamie Cardona’s one-man show, now the longest-running production in Maltese history.

Since its April 2024 premiere, this candid and humorous portrayal of Maltese adolescence has sold out each performance, and with more dates scheduled for January 2025, it will reach a record-breaking 53 shows.

Malta Records will recognise this achievement by awarding an official record certification to Cardona during the January run.

The show has resonated deeply with audiences, exploring Cardona’s teenage years at a church school. Through his diary, the narrative unfolds with a blend of humour and introspection, following his character’s exploration of faith, morality, relationships, and adolescent insecurities.

Directed by Vikesh Godhwani and written by Cardona, the production has connected strongly with audiences for its relatable and comedic look at the slow journey of personal growth.

Valletta To Turn Into Christmas Village With Daily Events

Valletta’s Christmas in the Capital program, an annual celebration of holiday events, has been announced and will run from November 24th to December 31st, 2024.

Minister for National Heritage, Arts, and Local Government, Owen Bonnici, along with Valletta Cultural Agency Chair Jason Micallef, shared details of the festive lineup, which includes activities spanning from Christmas lights to the New Year’s Eve concert.

Organised by the Valletta Cultural Agency, the event aims to showcase cultural and artistic attractions in the heart of Valletta.

Minister Bonnici emphasised that Christmas in the Capital brings people together to celebrate the season’s spirit. He highlighted the variety of artistic and cultural activities visitors can enjoy throughout the city. Jason Micallef added that this year’s program focuses on festive joy and peace, especially with the traditional Baby Jesus procession.

Around 25 events are planned, including concerts, dance performances, children’s workshops, and free admission to the New Year’s Eve event in St. George’s Square.

Highlights include Christmas lights along main streets, a Christmas tree in Freedom Square, an artistic Nativity scene near St. John’s Co-Cathedral, and holiday music along Republic Street, creating a vibrant, immersive holiday atmosphere in Valletta.

New Deal Between Science Malta & Chamber Of Engineers Signed

Today, Science Malta and the Chamber of Engineers signed a new agreement to strengthen collaboration between the two organisations.

The signing was overseen by Keith Azzopardi Tanti, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research, and Innovation.

This agreement is intended to enhance engineering’s role as a key contributor to research, innovation, and technological development within Malta.

Parliamentary Secretary Azzopardi Tanti highlighted the government’s commitment to advancing the country’s research and innovation capabilities through investment in engineering.

He noted that this collaboration supports Malta’s efforts to remain competitive in the global technology landscape. Additionally, he emphasised the government’s ongoing investment in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education at all levels, aiming to support both the engineering profession and foster a more informed society in related fields.

Eng. Malcolm Zammit, President of the Chamber of Engineers, expressed that the agreement creates new opportunities for engineering to contribute to Malta’s research and innovation landscape.

He added that it reinforces the engineering profession while equipping Malta with essential tools to sustain its competitiveness and technological progress.
