International Food Festival: Celebration Of Unity Through Diversity

The Parliamentary Secretary for Equality and Reforms, Rebecca Buttigieg, visited the preparations for the Malta International Food Festival, an event that celebrates culture, inclusion and harmonious coexistence in Malta.
The Human Rights Directorate within the Parliamentary Secretariat for Equality and Reforms will be participating in the festival for the second consecutive year, by providing a platform for various migrant communities living in our country.
Under the theme ‘Cultures are a beautiful language of diversity’, the Parliamentary Secretary emphasised the value of cultural exchange and mutual respect in building a more inclusive nation.
“Food is a universal language, and this festival reminds us how diversity can unite us and strengthen our national identity. Every dish tells a story, and every story enriches our cultural heritage,” stated Parliamentary Secretary Buttigieg.
During her visit, the Parliamentary Secretary also highlighted the ‘I Belong’ programme, which supports migrants in integrating into Maltese society through language courses and cultural orientation.

While praising the work of the Human Rights Directorate, she emphasised that the programme aims to continue strengthening inclusion and fighting racism.
Buttigieg added: “The International Food Festival is more than a celebration of cuisine. It is a celebration of belonging, of shared values, and of the beautiful diversity that gives our communities their unique character.”
The Directorate’s participation in this event continues the implementation of public awareness measures under the Integration Strategy and Action Plan launched earlier this year.

The festival will include culinary experiences from several countries, live performances, and interactive cultural displays. It will take place between Wednesday 6 and Sunday 10 August at the Floriana Granaries (Il-Fosos), starting from 6pm onwards.
