The match itself had to go to extra time after Inter’s first penalty in the 80th minute, which saw hardworking midfielder Hakan Calhangolu score the much needed equalizer for the Nerrazzuri.
This came after a very chaotic 80 minutes where Inter took the lead early on in the match from a superb long range effort by fan favourite Nicolo Barella. After their first goal Inter lost control of the match, with Juventus having more of the chances. The influx of Juventus chances resulted in two quickfire goals at the beginning of the second half with Alex Sandro scoring in the 50th minute and striker Dusan Vlahovic bagging a goal only 2 minutes after in the 52nd minute.
The equalizer looked like it shocked the Bianconeri players and it was clear who the favrouties to lift the trophy were after the added 30 minutes. To everyone’s surprise Inter were awarded yet another penalty in the 99th minute after a sloppy tackle from Juventus defender Mathijs De Ligt. This time it was Perisic who stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to give Inter the lead and complete the surprise comeback. To put the cherry on the cake, Ivan Perisic scored another goal only 3 minutes after. The goal came from a powerful long range shot after a well worked counter attack from the Inter players.
The match ended with the score being 4-2 in favour to Inter. This is their second trophy of the year, after already winning the Supercoppa. They will now be hoping for cross city rivals Milan to slip up in their pursuit for the league to defend their league title.
