Ingrid Sammut Appeals For Rare Device To Save Leg
Local

Ingrid Sammut is urgently appealing for help to access highly specialised electrical stimulation equipment that could prevent the permanent loss of her leg function.

In February, Ingrid underwent major surgery to treat a rare and aggressive form of cancer known as Ewing’s sarcoma.

The operation required the removal of a 12.3cm section of her sciatic nerve, leaving one of her legs paralysed and in constant, excruciating pain.

Despite months of intensive chemotherapy and hospital stays, Ingrid’s battle is far from over. She now lives with total foot drop and agonising nerve pain. Without urgent intervention, her leg muscles are at risk of irreversible atrophy.

To prevent this, Ingrid is seeking access to a device that can stimulate denervated muscles. This is highly specialised equipment that is not typically available in standard clinics.

Standard TENS or NMES machines are ineffective due to the nerve loss. What is needed is a device capable of long pulse width direct muscle stimulation, such as the Schuhfried Rise or KT Motion Stimulator.

Ingrid has expressed deep gratitude for the support she has received so far.

She clarified that what she urgently needs is access to a machine designed specifically for use on denervated muscles, in order to preserve what function remains.

Anyone with information, referrals, or access to such equipment in Malta or abroad is encouraged to contact her directly on WhatsApp at 99895817.
