The first photos have emerged of US cargo jets filled with hundreds of Afghan refugees as they escape the now Taliban occupied Afghanistan. The US has allegedly flown two C-17 cargo jets out of Kabul, with more flights expected to occur during the week. The refugees ran onto the aircraft before the military personnel had to close the ramps as the aircraft got crammed.

The Defence One photo shows the refugees all lined up in an aircraft fitted to carry 150 soldiers and 171,000lbs of cargo. The number of refugees was alleged to be around 640. Eight people have died at the Kabul airport on Monday as others seek to escape the country. President Joe Biden has defended his decision to withdraw troops, despite critics condemning him of carrying out one of the most shameful policy decisions in modern history.

Secret prison photo by Peppi Azzopardi reveals ‘inhumane’ jail cell

Secret prison photo by Peppi Azzopardi reveals ‘inhumane’ jail cell
Aug 16 2021 Share

A photo secretly taken in Corradino Correctional Facility and uploaded by Xarabank host Peppi Azzopardi shows the ‘inhumane’ cell some prisoners have to endure. Peppi reveals how this cell is called a ‘single room’, in which a prisoner is locked for over 23 hours everyday and only taken out for one hour. This cell has allegedly held a prisoner for over 50 days following the above mentioned procedure.

Peppi points to the ‘hole in the ground’, which prisoners use as both a toilet and a source of water to wash their faces. The mattress is also on the ground without any pillows or mattresses, with no fans available in the room as the prisoners have to endure extreme levels of heat. Peppi shockingly reveals how this 3 by 3 metre cell has previously held up to six prisoners at once, all trying to share the inhumane conditions.

Massive firework ‘Ballun tal-Blalen’ shines over Gozo for Santa Marija closing

Massive firework ‘Ballun tal-Blalen’ shines over Gozo for Santa Marija closing

As Santa Marija celebrations came to a close,  Jason Folfol’s firework spectacular called ‘il-Ballun tal-Blalen’ lit up the night sky with colour. Folfol works with the Saint Joseph Fireworks in Hal Ghaxaq, with a beautiful snapshot captured by local photographer Daniel Cilia.

The photograph captures the moment the colourful explosion made the dark sky over Ta’ Cenc’s cliffs a canvas of fireworks. The Maltese are known for their innovation with fireworks, being a crucial and cultural aspect of local feasts. This one is a prime example of how much passion and work goes into such artistry.
