Mar 27 2023 Share

FaZe Clan has made history in the world of esports by winning the fourth-ever Intel® Grand Slam. The team secured their victory by winning four ESL Pro Tour competitions, including the ESL Pro League Season 17, IEM Cologne 2022, ESL Pro League Season 15, and IEM Katowice 2022, and taking home the $1,000,000 cash prize.

Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken of FaZe Clan also became the first player ever to complete an Intel® Grand Slam twice, solidifying his place as one of the most talented players in the world of esports.

The ESL Pro League Season 17 featured a new format with more teams competing and an exciting broadcast vision. In the Grand Final, FaZe Clan took out Cloud9 3-1, winning $200,000 of the $850,000 total prize pool.

With this victory, FaZe Clan has also qualified for the next ESL Pro Tour Championship: Intel® Extreme Masters Cologne 2023, where they will have the chance to compete against the best teams in the world.

The ESL FACEIT Group’s announcement of non-exclusivity for broadcast rights earlier this year gave fans from around the world more opportunities to tune in during live broadcasts. This led to more than 517,000 people tuning in to watch the Grand Final of the ESL Pro League Season 17, showcasing the growing popularity of esports.

In addition to the exciting competition, ESL Pro League Season 17 also featured the world’s first Counter-Strike 2 showmatch on LAN, adding to the excitement and innovation of the event.

FaZe Clan’s achievement in winning the Intel® Grand Slam and the ESL Pro League Season 17 will go down in the history books of esports. Their consistent performance, skill, and teamwork have made them one of the best teams in the world, and their victory is a testament to their hard work and dedication. Congratulations to FaZe Clan on their impressive achievement.

MEP candidate Peter Agius has nominated Jean Paul Sofia’s mother, Isabelle Bonniċi, for European Citizen Prize.

‘This is in support for more construction site security and towards a public inquiry into the incident that took the life of Jean Paul’ wrote Agius. ‘I call on you all to support this nomination.’

The European Citizen’s Prize was launched by the European Parliament in 2008 to recognise exceptional achievements by Europeans.

‘The jury will pay special attention to projects showing solidarity amongst citizens in the European Union and beyond.’

Jean Paul Sofia was tragically killed in December of 2022  during the collapse of a three-story building in Kordin. The death sparked not only a controversy into infrastructural issues on the island but also protests calling for transparency due to the inquiry into his death not being made public.

The fan seemingly caused some problems during the match, leading to the police having to intervene and show the man the way out of the premises.

At a point, the Maltese football supporters could be heard chanting in favour of Malta to taunt the man. It is unclear what exactly led to the man having to be escorted out.
