Imsida Creek Project Space Opens For Public For Feast

The Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, Chris Bonett, has officially opened a new public space as part of the ongoing Msida Creek project. This follows a period of consultation and agreement with residents and local organisations. The newly accessible area is situated directly in front of the Msida Parish Church and is intended to form part of what will eventually become Msida’s new central square. It has been opened on a temporary basis to coincide with celebrations for the feast of St Joseph, taking place this weekend.
Local organisations are using the space for the first time to organise family-friendly events and children’s activities in a secure and welcoming setting. Space has also been allocated for the traditional ġostra, which will later be given a permanent home within the wider Creek project.

Minister Bonett also inspected ongoing work on a new bridge designed to link Ta’ Xbiex with Pietà. Below the bridge, construction has begun on a new canal that aims to reduce flooding in the area during periods of heavy rain.
Emphasising the value of transparency and continuous dialogue, Minister Bonett stated that regular communication with residents and local groups remains a key part of the project. He noted that the temporary opening of the space reflects the government’s commitment to community engagement and responsiveness.
He added that this area will continue to grow, offering the people of Msida a proper town square that will serve as a lively community hub. Minister Bonett was joined by Infrastructure Malta CEO, Steve Ellul.
