The Oscars were quite the eventful event, accumulating in the now meme-worthy moment of Will Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock in the face.
This followed a joke made about Smith’s wife, Jada, about her her hair loss. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air actor hit Rock in the face and yelled out ‘Keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth’.
Now, Smith has issued a public apology to Rock, the Academy and everyone else impacted with an Instagram post. Smith said that ‘violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive.’

‘My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.’
Apologising to Chris, Will said that he was out of line and that he feels embarrassed as his actions were not indicative of the man he wants to be. ‘There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.’
Smith also apologised to the Williams and King Richard Family, saying that he regrets his behaviour staining what has been an otherwise ‘gorgeous journey for all of [them]. I am a work in progress.’
