How Big Is Malta REALLY Compared to the Rest of the World?

You might need to squint to find Malta on a map, but don’t worry – it’s not just you! This little island country is one of the smallest in the world, and it’s hiding in the Mediterranean Sea, just below Italy.

So, how big is it? Malta is about 316 square kilometres in size. That’s smaller than London, and you could fit over 160 Maltas into Northern Ireland. Even teeny-tiny Cornwall in England is bigger than Malta.

If you tried to walk from one end of Malta to the other, it would only take around an hour and a half by car, or about a day if you had really good walking shoes and lots of snacks.

Even though it’s small, Malta is packed with awesome things like ancient temples, castles, and brilliant beaches. And guess what? It’s been lived on for more than 7,000 years, making it one of the oldest places in Europe!

Did you know? Only five countries in the whole world are smaller than Malta. These are Vatican City, Monaco, Nauru, Tuvalu and San Marino.

So, while Malta might be small enough to miss on a map, it’s definitely huge in history, sunshine and surprises. Size isn’t everything!
