Hot weather is looming as the beaches are getting ready for summer!

As the summer weather starts to inch its way back after a very cold winter, the beaches around the island are being prepared to welcome us back for our first swims!

The Cleansing and Maintenance Division, Clean Malta, revealed on social media that they are already making sure that the beaches are in top notch condition to welcome both locals and tourists to the pristine seasides Malta and Gozo have to offer.

‘When the weather allows it, there are always people ready to take their first dip. Some have already started swimming and there are some who swim all year round’ they wrote.

‘One thing is for sure. Swimmers will be met with clean beaches thanks to the continuous work of the Cleansing and Maintenance Division through the Tourism Ministry.’

Images shared to social media show the work being done to prepare the beaches. And if you’re one of those brave souls who is ready to face the still cold waters, you’ll already have noted the division’s hard work!

More planes, more travel: AirMalta welcomes 5th airbus A320neo

Air Malta have officially announced that on the 24th of March 2023, it received delivery of its fifth Airbus A320neo.

The new aircraft, which will bear the registration 9H-NEE, will be replacing the A320ceo 9H-AEQ will be exiting the fleet.

‘The delivery flight from the Airbus plant in Toulouse to Malta International Airport was powered by a blend of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and commanded by Capt. Patrick Calleja, and First Officer Mark Attard. This was Capt. Calleja’s last flight with Air Malta after a career spanning more than 31 years of service for Air Malta.’

It has been delivered with a new modern livery design and picks up from the colours and elements off the Maltese flag.

This is another step in the airline’s fleet renewal project as the airline currently operates a fleet of seven Airbus, four A320neo and three A320ceo aircraft.

The renewal started back in 2018, moving from old A320ceo to the greener A320neo. The plan is to consist of a single-type aircraft – the A320neo.

This is a transition that means a significant reduction to fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and noise footprint. The craft is equipped to accommodate 180 passengers in a two cabin configuration.

‘As the quietest aircraft of its size, the A320neo will result in 20% lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions along with lower maintenance costs compared to previous-generation Airbus aircraft. The A320neo also features a cabin air refresh rate of 2 minutes and includes ozone converters to further purify the cabin air from external fumes too.’

48 year old motorcyclist grievously injured in Birkirkara

Police were informed earlier today at around 0730hrs that their assistance was needed in Triq Notabile, Birkirkara due to a crash that had occurred.

Police convened immediately on site and found through preliminary investigations that a crash had occurred between a Honda motorcycle driven by a 48-year-old man from Ħ’Attard and a Suzuki Carry driven by a 77-year-old resident of Ħal Balzan.

A medical team was called onto the site and transported the motorcycle driver to Mater Dei Hospital for further care. He was later certified as having suffered grievous injuries.

More investigations are currently underway.
