Here is why Rihanna won’t get paid for her Super Bowl show

Here is why Rihanna won't get paid for her Super Bowl show
Feb 14 2023 Share

Rihanna just performed at the Super Bowl LVII halftime show for free. Yes, that’s right – not that this will be much of a problem for the billionaire, but the amazing performance by the artist was done for free.

Despite the famed halftime show attracting the biggest names in music, there is no pay check for the headlining act, with an NFL spokesperson telling Forbes in 2016 that they simply cover expenses and production costs.

Artists, despite not being awarded an appearance fee, they are paid union scale, which is a minimum wage guaranteed by a union contract.

However, the chance to perform before the ever increasing large crowd is deemed very much worth it. 2022’s Super Bowl was watched by 112.3 million viewers, with this year’s match poised to have attract even higher ratings.

Artists also see boosts in sales after the show, with Rihanna’s makeup brand Fenty Beauty experiencing a whopping 833% boost after she took the opportunity to apply some of it mid-show.

The show was also highly memorable for Rihanna as she used the opportunity to reveal that she is officially pregnant with her second child with A$AP Rocky, making her the first pregnant woman to headline the show.

Motorists in Malta cautioned against new potholes after storm Helios

Motorists in Malta cautioned against new potholes after storm Helios
Feb 14 2023 Share

Many are issuing cautionary warnings for motorists and others commuting on Malta’s roads due to various new potholes which emerged upon the advent of storm helios last week.

A warning was posted on Maltese Roads Traffic Updates Facebook page that a massive pothole appeared immediately prior to the Mriehel flyover (driving from Marsa/Ħamrun towards Attard).

As many commented on the post, it could be understood that the issue is being faced by many in various areas around the island.

Images of potholes in Sliema, Buġibba, San Gwann and various other localities were shared in the comments section. Therefore, caution on all Maltese roads is currently being advised and, where possible, contact with relevant authorities to address the issues.

Did you encounter any newly formed potholes these past few days?

UK approves launching weight loss jab in few months

UK approves launching weight loss jab in few months
Feb 14 2023 Share

The UK has just green-lit a rather controversial weight loss jab to be made available from a major British high-street giant in a few months.

The drug, which is manufactured by Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, has been rebranded into two categories: one for diabetes issues called ‘Ozempic’ and another for cosmetic weight loss concerns called ‘Wegovy’.

The practice is common in Hollywood wherein semaglutide, first released back in 2017, was intended to treat weight related issues such as type 2 diabetes.

However, it was noted by users that the drug also helped them shed off a few extra pounds as their health issues were being addressed. In 2021, semaglitude was officially approved as a weight loss treatment leading to ‘off-label prescribing’.

The company, operating under the name Ozempic, now promotes the drug as addressing multiple health concerns. These include lowering blood sugar, lowering the risk of major cardiovascular events such as stroke and ‘may help’ lose some weight.

Wegovy’s selling point is differing from Ozempic, which is promising to help patients lose weight and ‘keep it off’. The two company’s jabs slightly vary on dosage levels.

The jab is packing a 2.4mg dose of semaglitude whereas the diabetes treatments pack just 1mg or lower. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence explains: “Semaglutide binds to, and activates, the GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor to increase insulin secretion, suppress glucagon secretion, and slow gastric emptying.”

This means it works by suppressing a hunger’s appetite by promoting insulin production. Applied once weekly, it lowers patients’ blood sugar levels.
