Helpline 138, the centralised service connecting the public with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA), has recently marked its first anniversary since being launched.

Minister for Justice and Construction Sector Reform, Dr Jonathan Attard, said, ““We are marking the first anniversary of Helpline 138 a 24/7 centralised service that has become a vital reference point for all matters relating to construction, health, and safety. Over the past year, the service has handled 39,171 calls an average of 107 calls per day which highlights its crucial role in protecting workers and the public. This initiative, introduced as part of broader reforms, reflects our firm commitment to improving standards across the construction sector. We will continue to develop the service to ensure it remains proactive, effective, and a symbol of our mission to safeguard lives and reinforce accountability on every construction site.”

The high volume of calls underscores the growing engagement between the BCA, OHSA, and the public through this centralised platform. Of the total received, 8,367 calls were directed to OHSA while 30,804 calls were referred to the BCA.

OHSA Chief Executive, Dr Josianne Cutajar, said, ““The strong public response is the result of various initiatives and reforms implemented in recent months. The launch of the helpline was only the beginning we followed up with an educational campaign to further raise awareness about the services we’ve introduced since.”
