In a remarkable display of skill and determination, four Maltese arm-wrestlers made history in Sicily, competing without a federation back home. Defying the notion that Malta lacks talent in the sport, the athletes showcased their passion and prowess on the international stage.

Brian emerged as a standout, securing two gold medals in the 100kg amateur category for both left and right arms. Daniel added to the team’s success with a silver in the +100kg amateur category (left arm). Nick won gold in the 90kg professional category (right arm), while Antoine claimed gold in the 100kg professional category and later triumphed with an overall gold medal, with Nick taking silver in that final round.

In total, the team brought home an impressive seven medals: four gold and three silver. The event culminated in a warm welcome from Italian president Claudio Rizza, who invited the Maltese athletes into the Italian arm-wrestling family. Moving forward, they will proudly represent Italy in future international competitions.

CSA Enforces Tattoo Documentation for Correctional Officers

CSA Enforces Tattoo Documentation for Correctional Officers
Nov 3 2024 Share

The Correctional Services Agency (CSA) is requiring all prison correctional officers to photograph and catalogue their tattoos, aiming to enforce a dress code policy introduced in 2022. The CSA outlined the mandatory documentation process in an internal memo seen by Times of Malta. Officers with tattoos in exposed areas must have these areas photographed and sign a declaration, while those without visible tattoos need only sign a declaration.

The CSA’s policy permits body art, but prohibits excessive or offensive tattoos, as well as tattoos on the face, neck, and hands. Additionally, officers cannot obtain new tattoos in visible areas without prior approval. According to Times of Malta, some officers have reportedly violated this policy, frustrating colleagues who have adhered to the rules.

This initiative, led by a senior correctional inspector, is seen by some officers as a necessary measure to uphold standards. However, others argue it infringes on personal privacy and question its legality. Traditionally, tattoo restrictions in disciplined forces have aimed to uphold a professional image, though many countries are now relaxing these restrictions as societal attitudes evolve.
