Maltese champions Ħamrun Spartans have been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds after a 6-0 aggregate defeat to Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv.

The Spartans suffered a 3-0 loss in the first leg played in Malta, followed by another 3-0 defeat in the return leg held in Poland, as Dynamo Kyiv continues to play home matches abroad due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Despite the heavy loss, Ħamrun’s European campaign is not yet over. They now drop into the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round, where they will face the loser between Paphos FC of Cyprus and Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel.

All Ħamrun need to become Malta’s first ever representative in a European league stage, is win one more tie whether it be in the Europa League or the Conference League playoff.
