Documents filed with the Environment and Resources Authority have revealed that the planned race circuit in Hal Far could host up to five motorsport event per year.
The Project Description Statement (PDS) filed with the ERA highlights certain details proposed by the Malta Motorsports Federation, with the document itself written by ADI consultants. The document outlines that together with the already-existing karting track and drag racing facility, the area will be converted into a national multi-purpose motorsports hub, hosting “a range of national and international motor sports events along with other sports, business, and recreational activities for the local motor sport and racing community, as well as for tourists and international visitors.”
The facility will be used for national, regional and international championships for cars and bikes, drifting events, test events and even try-outs for tracks and cars of the general public along with road safety tests conducted by Transport Malta, the Police and driving schools, amongst others.
The document also highlighted the plan for the race track to become a new destination for event tourism with conferences and exhibitions.
Amongst other suggestions, the PDS proposed that the Government of Malta considers the relocation of the various Refugee Centres, eliminating certain impacts brought upon by the race track.
