Government Grants 95% Land Lease Subsidy To Floriana FC To Boost Youth Sport Facilities

A new agreement has been signed in the presence of Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, Clifton Grima, whereby SportMalta is transferring land to Floriana Football Club on a temporary emphyteusis basis for a period of 45 years, starting today.
Thanks to a 95% government subsidy on the lease of the land, which will be developed into sports facilities, the club will pay an annual rent of just €11,184.83 significantly lower than the land’s market value of €223,696.68.
With this agreement, the club will now be able to manage and invest in the site, transforming it into a modern sports facility. Planned developments include administrative offices for sports activities, gymnasiums, and sports clinics.
These facilities will primarily benefit children and young people, as they will be made available to the club’s Youth Nursery and, through a separate agreement, also opened during school hours for the use of local schoolchildren.
Minister Grima said, “Our vision is clear—we aim to strengthen the sports sector and raise the standard of sport in our country, including at club level.”
The Minister also highlighted various assistance schemes currently in place to support clubs and associations across different sporting disciplines.
“This agreement demonstrates the Government’s continued delivery on its electoral pledges in the field of sport, providing clubs and federations with the necessary tools and facilities to grow.” the Minister added.

The rental payments from this agreement will be allocated to the ‘Sports Fund’, which is then reinvested into further local sports development.
Matthew Pisani, speaking on behalf of SportMalta, said, “We are expanding our efforts to ensure more clubs and associations have access to professional sports facilities where they can practise their disciplines. These facilities will also be open to students, giving them access to safe and dedicated spaces in their towns or villages for physical activity.”
President of Floriana Football Club, Johann Said, expressed his appreciation, saying that the agreement will allow the club to significantly upgrade its infrastructure. “This step forward will give Floriana FC the opportunity to develop modern facilities that will benefit not just the club, but the entire community.”
