Government cannot solve population problem it created says PN

A statement by the Nationalist Party has called out the government under Robert Abela for being unable to solve the population crisis it caused.

This of course comes after Finance Minister Clyde Caruana predicted, or rather warned, that the population of the island could reach 800,000 by the year 2040 if the same economic model is preserved – a model created by himself.

The Opposition said that Minister Caruana stated a year ago that the economic model that he pushed for had failed and had urged for a change.

‘With his own admission, the economic model built on unrestricted consumption without added value, based on the increase of the population without planning in the most densely populated amongst the EU member states, needs to change.’

The Opposition accused the government of not providing any long term solutions to the issues.

‘What type of value added jobs for Malta’s youth and workers will be created? What types of sectors which pay good wages and not cheap labour will be created? Above all, what vision will the government create for our youth so that their quality of life is better?’

The Party went on to provide a number of solutions it intends to put forth to solve the issues, among them being:

  • To strengthen the sectors built by the Nationalist Government
  • The creation of an economic model with new sectors which aim to provide better quality and paying jobs
  • The creation of 10 new economic models
  • The COLA allowance not being taxable
  • That the government should give fiscal incentives to combat the increases in cost of living
  • A national fund with an annual budget of €40 million to help the importing or exporting industry

Spokesperson on behalf of the Nationalist Party Jerome Caruana Cilia said that the Opposition is insisting that Robert Abela government should focus on the problems and take immediate action.

Residents in China can now pay using the palm of their hands

Residents in China can now pay using the palm of their hands

Chinese citizens now have the capability of paying for items using the palm of their hand and leaving their phones and wallets at home.

On May 21st, WeChat Pay released a new ‘palm payment’ method, which allows users to complete transactions by waving their hand over a device.

According to Tencent, the technology, which was developed by the YouTu artificial intelligence lab, relies on surface-level palm prints and the hand’s veins.

This is aimed at improving efficiency and simplifying user experience, with the company saying that this could help for persons with disabilities and the elderly.

As of yet, the service is only available for residents in mainland China who completed identify verification and can be used in certain metro stations. The plan is to roll it out to restaurants, offices and other establishments.

Apple Vision Pro: Apple’s Augmented Reality Headset

Apple Vision Pro: Apple's Augmented Reality Headset
Jun 6 2023 Share

Apple has officially announced its augmented reality headset called Apple Vision Pro, which CEO Tim Took describes as the first Apple product you look through, and not at.

Looking like a pair of ski goggles, the AR headset works by using the eyes, hands and voice to navigate through apps and the digital world.

With a price tag currently set at a whopping $3,499 and with a launch set for early 2024 in the US, the headset can switch between augment and full virtual reality.

Users can browse through app icons in an operating system called visionOS by simply looking at them. They can also tap to select, flick to scroll or talk to the device to give commands.

The headset also tries to not completely separate you form the people around as the headset will display your eyes with a system called EyeSight. However, if you’re in full VR, a glowing screen will obscure them to suggest you are not available.

In the works for years, it has suffered various delays before its final release. With competitors sure to come in the form of Meta and the like, it will be a while before this will be up for commercial use.
