Mirabelle Falzon, aged 22, who tragically passed away on July 19 after being crushed by a rockfall in Marsascala.

Malta With Highest Medical Graduates In EU But Lowest Dentist Graduates

In 2022, a total of 69,279 medical doctors graduated in the EU. The ratio of new doctors per 100,000 people slightly dropped 15.5 from 15.7 in 2021.

Bulgaria had  the highest rate at 29.5 graduates per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Malta with 27.7 and Latvia with 27.5. In contrast, Slovenia had the lowest rate at the 11.4, about a third of Bulgaria’s rate. Estonia and Germany also had lower rates, at 12.2 and 12.4 per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively.

For dentists, there were 14,313 graduates across the EU in 2022 , equating to 3.2 graduates per 100,000 people , a slight rise from 3.1 in 2021.

Romania led with the highest rate of 9.9 per 100,000 followed by Portugal with 9.1 and Bulgaria with 7.8. Malta, Italy, and the Netherlands reported the lowest rates, with Malta having less than 0.1, Italy 1.4, and the Netherlands 1.5 per 100,000 inhabitants.
