Electronic music legends including Bonobo, Charlotte de Witte, Richie Hawtin, I Hate Models, Mall Grab & more will be heading to Malta this summer for Glitch Festival’s 6th edition.

The popular Maltese festival unveiled this year’s line-up to widespread approval, with a host of iconic names in electronic music also including Helena Hauff, Héctor Oaks, Len Faki, Patrick Mason, Klangkuenstler and so many more.

The 65-act line-up looks to satisfy music lovers from all walks of the electronic music sphere, with an explosive opening event in a UNESCO world heritage site under the Valletta fortifications, two days of raving at Gianpula Village and a magical boat party and heartfelt closing party on the 16th.

Boiler Room will also return to the Maltese Islands for the third time, with the broadcasting giant to host a Boiler Room stage at Gianpula Village, with the acts streamed live on their platforms.

Glitch Festival will also offer a platform to a host of local electronic music artists, including Acidulant, Bjan Jensen, Budg, Chaos System, Damz, Dave Space, Duo Blank, Etched, Gordon Flash, Human Safari, Manthrax, Mato, Matte, Muski, Resume Inc, Sean Rickett, Slick Steve, Sound Synthesis, STK & more.

285 of 294 seized animals found forever homes

Between May of 2021 and December of 2022, a total of 294 animals were seized, with 285 of them finding new homes.

The types of animals included ponies, ducks, cats, birds, chickens, quails, guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs, geese, plovers, roosters, chickens, and budgies.

The announcement was made by Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo in response to an inquiry by opposition MP Charles Azzopardi in Parliament.

We could soon be using social media with just our minds

Scientists have created an innovative brain implant that could change the way people interact with technology.

The implant, called the Layer 7 Cortical Interface, is thinner than a human hair and has the potential to allow people to use social media with just their minds.

The primary target group for the implant are paralysed or mute patients who are unable to communicate through a computer using their limbs. However, even healthy individuals could take advantage of this technology.

Unlike brain implants created by companies like Elon Musk’s, the procedure for the Layer 7 Cortical Interface is less invasive and the implant sits on the surface of the brain rather than being embedded within the tissue.

The implant is made of a strip of flexible, thin film material and has electrodes attached to it, which are one-fifth the thickness of a human hair. This helps the implant to conform to the surface of the brain without causing any damage to the tissue.

To implant the device, surgeons make a small slit in the skull and slide the strip in, similar to putting a letter in a box. The CEO of Precision, Michael Mager, has stated that the slit is less than a millimeter thick and patients do not even need to shave their heads to receive the implant. This is a major advantage compared to other technologies that require removing a significant portion of the skull, which carries the risk of infection.

The device works by collecting brain signals, interpreting them, and sending commands to a connected machine depending on the brain signals received. The number of electrodes on the strip can be easily increased, making it possible to use the implant to treat other neurological conditions.

If a patient changes their mind, the implantation is also reversible. The device has already successfully decoded brain signals in animals and Precision is hoping to get FDA approval to test the implant in humans in the near future.

With this groundbreaking technology, the future of communication and interaction with technology looks very exciting.

30 year old woman grievously injured after being hit by car

Police were informed yesterday at around 1945hrs that a traffic accident had taken place in Triq Idmejda, Ħal Balzan.

Police convened immediately on site and preliminary investigations showed that a 30-year-old Lithuanian woman resident of Ħ’Attard was hit by a Nissan Qashqai driven by a 38-year-old man resident of Ħal Balzan.

The victim was given medical attention on site and then taken to Mater Dei Hospital. She was later certified as having suffered grievous injuries.

Police are still investigating.
