Adding to the event’s grandeur, King Charles III was among the esteemed guests, with other high-profile attendees like Andrew Scott, Chloé Zhao, Jodie Turner-Smith, Idris Elba, and filmmakers and producers Doug Wick, Lucy Fisher, and Michael Pruss.

Gladiator II continues the story of ancient Rome, centering on Lucius (played by Mescal), who, years after the death of the legendary Maximus, finds himself drawn into the violent world of the Colosseum.

As Rome falls under the grip of tyrannical emperors, Lucius, fueled by vengeance and honor, must confront his past to reclaim Rome’s former glory for its people. With themes of power, resilience, and justice, Gladiator II promises an epic return to the grandeur and brutality of Rome, reimagining its legacy for a new generation.

Local Animal Shelter Calls Out Neglect Of Pets

Nov 14 2024 Share

The Association for Abandoned Animals (AAA) recently addressed neglectful pet owners in Malta through a heartfelt Facebook post.

They shared a photo of a once-healthy dog, now severely neglected, illustrating how poor treatment has transformed her and other pets “into a shadow of what they were.”

AAA urged potential pet owners to reconsider if they are not prepared to fully commit, saying, “Just do not get a pet if you are not willing to keep them as a full family member, with good food, good medical care, and love and attention.”

Although the dog’s blood tests came back normal, AAA reported that she was barely eating and had little energy, highlighting the emotional and physical toll of neglect.

The shelter’s message serves as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with pet ownership and the impact of compassion on animals’ well-being.

Enhanced Support for Families of Children with Disabilities in Malta’s 2025 Budget

Nov 14 2024 Share

As part of the 2025 Budget measures, the tax credit for parents of children with disabilities will increase from €500 to €750 per year to support specialized therapy costs. This measure, overseen by the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), will now extend to parents who do not pay tax due to unemployment or reliance on social benefits.

Minister for Inclusion and Volunteering, Julia Farrugia, announced these details at a press conference held at the Sonia Tanti Independent Living Centre in Ħal Far, operated by Aġenzija Sapport.

This center is currently undergoing a €700,000 refurbishment to improve its services, expected to be completed in 2025. Planned enhancements include better accessibility, two ACTU clinics, a play area for children, wheelchair assessment clinics, a driving clinic, and a sensory room, among other facilities.

CRPD Commissioner Rhoda Garland highlighted that the tax credit increase for specialized therapy is a crucial support for parents with children requiring developmental therapies, promoting greater independence.

Aġenzija Sapport CEO Oliver Scicluna noted that the improved facilities will enable a multidisciplinary team to deliver more comprehensive services focused on accessibility and independent living for persons with disabilities.
