The Nationalist Party have kicked off the 2024 European Parliament and Local Councils elections with a mass meeting in Mosta, with the slogan ‘Għalik’ (For You) appearing on various placards and banners.

With Opposition Leader Bernard Grech and European Parliament Roberta Metsola addressing the rally, the mass meeting also coincides with Worker’s Day, celebrated in Malta on the 1st of May.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola addressed the crowed that gathered in Mosta as the Nationalist Party launches the ‘Għalik’ campaign for the European Parliament and Local Council elections.

Recollecting the memory of Malta joining the EU 20 years ago, Roberta Metsola said that this was a move that provided the Maltese with multiple opportunities.

Critiquing the recent controversies, Metsola said that she is a proud Maltese and that she cannot accept having her name and Malta be tainted.

Opposition leader Bernard Grech addressed the crowed that gathered in Mosta as the Nationalist Party launches the ‘Għalik’ campaign for the European Parliament and Local Council elections.

Critiquing the government by hitting at the recent Vitals-Steward scandal and the Joseph Muscat court case, Bernard Grech said that this betrays the slogan of the Labour Party’s slogan of ‘Strength to the Maltese’.

He advocated for the ‘Għalik’ slogan, citing the various ways in which the PN seeks to be different and work for the Maltese public, both locally and internationally.

Thousands have turned up for the Labour Party’s Worker’s Day Mass Meeting on the 1st of May.

The rally also coincides with the launch of the European Parliament and Local Councils election campaign, with the theme of ‘Is-Saħħa Lill-Maltin’ (Strength to the Maltese).

In his address, Prime Minister Robert Abela called Worker’s Day shows the strength of the Labour Party.

‘The 1st of May is a special day for us’, said the Prime Minister. ‘Our forefathers had a lot to fight for.’

He highlighted how, if trust is once again given to the Labour Party and himself as Prime Minister, he would continue to work on increasing social benefits for students, pensioners and various other sectors of Maltese society.

But these achievements which were won need to be fought for over and over, said the Prime Minister as those who do not accept progress will still push back.

“SpongeBob SquarePants” debuted on May 1, 1999, after creator Stephen Hillenburg’s journey from marine science to animation.

Initially an educational comic featuring “Bob the Sponge,” Hillenburg pitched the idea to Nickelodeon during his time directing “Rocko’s Modern Life.” The show’s preview, “Help Wanted,” aired after Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards, introducing iconic characters like SpongeBob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Squidward, and Gary.

Tom Kenny’s unique voice for SpongeBob contributed to its distinctiveness.

The series officially launched on July 17, 1999, surpassing popular shows in viewership. Its success soared with nearly 56 million viewers by 2002, and its first film grossed $141 million globally in 2004.

Hillenburg remained involved in subsequent projects despite stepping down as showrunner after the movie. The franchise expanded with spin-offs, video games, theme park rides, and a Broadway musical.

“SpongeBob SquarePants” remains popular, currently in its 14th season. The franchise’s retail merchandise sales exceeded $13 billion by 2017, showcasing its cultural impact and enduring appeal.

Jake Vella Breaks Record As Youngest To Swim 100km In Pool

The Malta Records presented Malta’s sport ambassador Jake Vella with his own record after he became the youngest local person to swim for 100km in a pool.

The presentation of the record took place in the Disneyland Section of Mater Dei Hospital, with the local record organisation highlighting Jake’s resilience.

At the age of 12 years and 4 months, Jake became the youngest person to achieve this record across 20 days between June and July 2021 in a total of 33 hours, 15 minutes and 39 seconds.
