We Need To Think Of Gozo Access Alternatives, PN MP Says

We Need To Think Of Gozo Access Alternatives, PN MP Says

Nationalist MP Alex Borg took to social media to reflect upon this past weekend’s episodes, which saw two bomb threats on Friday and Saturday respectively on Gozo Channel vessels.

Despite both threats turning out negative (as no bombs were found), the MP said that this still requires us to think of short-term and long-term plans in case of similar situations.

Thanking the Armed Forces of Malta for their service, Borg said that we can, with immediate effect, consider ‘safe passage’ from alternative ports in case of emergency – such as medical emergencies or travel – with the possible aid of the armed forces.

When it comes to long term plans, Borg urged for studies into alternative maritime access towards Gozo, especially when considering maritime congestion.

What do you think?

2 Losses For Malta’s U-17 In 2025 UEFA Championship

2 Losses For Malta's U-17 In 2025 UEFA Championship

The Maltese Under-17 team faced a tough weekend with two significant defeats in the European Championship qualifiers, first losing 4-0 to England and then 5-0 to Sweden.

Thursday’s match against England highlighted Malta’s resilience, but the English, featuring players from elite clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal, proved too strong.

On Saturday, Malta’s squad, led by coach Francesco Macri, saw another lineup change against Sweden, hoping for a breakthrough.

Despite a promising start, Sweden quickly took control, with Milian Oberg scoring first. Sweden’s superior offense overwhelmed Malta, scoring five times, including a brace by Benjamin Brandtlind, who exploited defensive lapses.

Malta struggled to create scoring chances, with goalkeeper Jayden Farrugia making several saves to limit the damage.

These back-to-back defeats place Malta at the bottom of their group, which England and Sweden now lead on equal points. Malta will conclude their campaign against Latvia, while England and Sweden face off for group supremacy.

Meanwhile on Saturday, the Malta Women’s National Team too faced a 5-0 loss to Italy in Rome, with four goals conceded in the last 10 minutes.
