Interim Malta coach Davide Mazzotta has announced a 30-man squad for two upcoming international matches at the National Stadium: a friendly against Turkmenistan on 10th October and a UEFA Nations League Group D2 qualifier against Moldova on 13th October.

Mazzotta’s squad includes several new players, such as Reading’s 19-year-old forward Basil Tuma, who has previously played for Malta’s U-19 and U-21 teams, Brescia’s Trent Buhagiar, who committed to representing Malta, and Gzira United defender Gabriel Mentz, recently granted Maltese citizenship.

Additionally, Birkirkara’s Neil Micallef earned his first call-up.

Returning to the squad are Floriana’s Dunstan Vella, Hamrun Spartans’ Juan Corbalan, Sliema Wanderers’ Cain Attard, and Birkirkara’s Alexander Satariano, who missed the September window. Marsaxlokk’s Ryan Scicluna also returns after a long absence.

However, injuries have sidelined Carlo Zammit Lonardelli, Steven Pisani, Jodi Jones, Steve Borg, and Enrico Pepe.

Malta and Moldova are level with three points each in the UEFA Nations League Group D2, although Moldova has played one fewer game.

The full squad includes goalkeepers Henry Bonello, Rashed Al Tumi, and Matthew Grech, alongside a mix of experienced defenders, midfielders, and forwards like Jurgen Degabriele, Kemar Reid, and Luke Montebello. Tickets for both matches are available for purchase online.

Malta Suspends New Permits For Y-Plate Workers & Food Couriers

Malta Suspends New Permits For Y-Plate Workers & Food Couriers
Oct 4 2024 Share

As of July 2024, an evaluation by Jobsplus has confirmed that Malta has an adequate supply of Y-plate workers and food couriers.

Consequently, new applications for work permits in these sectors are no longer being accepted, affecting both individuals outside Malta and those wishing to change employers.

Since the decision was made, no approvals have been granted for additional third-country nationals in these fields.

In fact, from July 1st until now, the number of employed third-country nationals in these sectors has decreased by 587. Jobsplus is actively conducting labor market tests to assess the genuine need for workers in these areas.

According to their analysis, Malta now requires fewer workers than it did in July.

Therefore, the number of third-country nationals allowed in these sectors will be lower than the number that exited. As a result, Jobsplus will continue to reject work permit applications for these sectors from individuals outside Malta, meaning no third-country nationals can work here.

It will also gradually approve a limited number of permits for those already working full-time in Malta who have applied for part-time work in these sectors, as well as those already employed in Malta seeking positions in these areas. Individuals without existing work permits will not be considered.
