Free Childcare And Carer Support For Crime And Domestic Violence Victims Testifying In Court

Victim Support Agency (VSA) has launched two new free services to assist victims of crime and domestic violence who are required to testify in court.
One service offers childcare for children under the age of three, available at four centres across Malta and Gozo, including Santa Venera, Mrieħel, and Għarb. This is available to mothers supported by the agency upon prior notification.

The second service provides certified carers for individuals who have dependents such as the elderly, vulnerable persons, or those with disabilities. While the victim is attending court, a carer is sent to their home to look after the dependent, also free of charge. Both services cover the time just before and after the court session.
Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment, Byron Camilleri, stated these services aim to reduce the stress and hardship victims face and help ensure they do not feel victimized a second time. Since its launch four years ago, the agency has assisted over 4,000 victims.
VSA CEO Brian Farrugia emphasized that the services are based on the real needs of victims and aim to help them testify with clarity and peace of mind, contributing to fair justice and a better quality of life.
