In what is being called a ‘small revolution for contraception’, French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that French pharmacies will begin to give free condoms to adults aged between 18 and 25.
This moves comes as part of the country’s attempt to reduce unwanted pregnancies in the country’s younger communities.

The decision follows another made earlier this year which saw the government offering free birth control to women aged under 25, to ensure young women do not stop taking contraception due to financial struggles.
If prescribed by medical officials such as doctors or midwives, condoms were already supported by France’s healthcare system as part of the country’s efforts to fight the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
In the regard of sexual education, Macron stated that France and its teachers have much more to learn and educate as “[they] are not very good on this subject”.
