The body of Ghanaian professional footballer and former Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu has been found dead in the aftermath of the earthquakes which hit Turkey and Syria on February 6.
According to one of the footballer’s representatives, Atsu’s body was found in the ruins of the building where he lived in Turkey after the earthquakes that occurred on February 6.
Atsu had been missing since the earthquakes and was mistakenly reported as hospitalised last week. His agent expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to Atsu’s family and loved ones.
The agent also thanked those who supported and prayed for Atsu and asked for privacy for the family during this difficult time. Atsu had played for several Premier League teams, including Chelsea, Bournemouth, Everton, and Newcastle, after joining Chelsea in 2013 and being sent on loan to Dutch club Vitesse.
On February 6, 2023, earthquakes hit both Turkey and Syria, resulting in significant damage and loss of life. The initial earthquake measured 7.3 on the Richter scale and was followed by several aftershocks. The earthquakes triggered a large-scale rescue and recovery effort, with many people still missing and the death toll continuing to rise.
