Malta’s Traditional Figolla was named one of the world’s best cookies on Taste Atlas’ “100 Best Cookies in the World” list!
Figolli were named amongst other world-famous cookies such as macarons, chocolate chip cookies and amaretti.
The figolla is described as a marzipan-filled cookie, decorated with icing or melted chocolate, shaped into lambs or bunnies due to its association to Easter time. Taste Atlas explain how traditionally, figolli were shaped as fish, baskets or women as this used to symbolise fertility.
Figolla is, and will surely always be a mainstay in Maltese pastry shops and kitchens during Easter, regardless of its exterior’s shape or decoration.
