Fire engines could be seen on site managing the situation. It is currently unclear what led to the fire and whether anyone was injured.

Big Changes Coming To Transport? Minister Teases Action

Earlier this week, Times of Malta reported that the government is considering offering drivers €25,000 to surrender their driving licence for five years.

However, Malta Daily confirmed that  this is just one of several measures being explored as part of a short-term strategy to tackle Malta’s traffic issues.

Under the proposed scheme, licence holders who own a car and have been driving in Malta for at least seven years would receive €5,000 annually for five years in exchange for giving up their licence.

The government has been working on various initiatives to discourage private car ownership and promote alternative transport options.

Transport Minister Chris Bonett previously stated that a two-phase plan—comprising short-term and long-term measures—was in the works to address Malta’s traffic congestion.

These latest proposals, expected to be announced soon, form part of the short-term strategy.

Malta Daily understands that Minister Bonett is committed to implementing these measures, with full backing from the cabinet and the prime minister. While details may still change, discussions with stakeholders have been ongoing for some time.

Additional initiatives are also being planned as the government continues its efforts to improve Malta’s traffic situation.

Leader Of The Nationalist Party Presented With The Floriana Regeneration Plan

Bernard Grech, Leader of the Nationalist Party, has become the first politician to meet formally with the Floriana Local Council to discuss its ambitious Regeneration Plan.

This morning PM leader Bernard Grech was presented the regeneration plan for Floriana by the Floriana Local council.

This plan aims to revitalise Floriana and significantly improve the quality of life for its residents.

During his visit, Grech was greeted by Floriana Mayor Nigel Holland and Nationalist Deputy Mayor James Aaron Ellul, the plan’s main architect.

The initiative is being regarded as a potential blueprint for similar regeneration projects across other localities, with a focus on key issues such as waste management, environmental sustainability, and traffic congestion.

Accompanied by Shadow Ministers Albert Buttigieg and Eve Borg Bonello, Grech toured Floriana’s streets, gaining firsthand insight into the area’s regeneration needs and reaffirming his commitment to a brighter future for the community.
