Malta’s eagerly awaited festa season commenced with the village of Floriana celebrating the feast of its patron saint, St. Publius, the first Maltese bishop. This marks the beginning of a vibrant series of festas that span from May to September, each hosted by different villages across the island.
St. Publius is a figure of great historical and religious significance in Malta, and Floriana’s festa in his honour is traditionally the first in the annual cycle of such events. Videos sent to Malta Daily show Floriana natives admire fireworks, pyrotechnics, street celebrations as well as the traditional procession with the statue of St. Publius himself.
