Festa Fireworks Cancelled in Balluta and Santa Venera Due to Strong Winds

The traditional fireworks displays planned for the feasts in Balluta and Santa Venera have been cancelled due to strong winds forecasted to hit the Maltese Islands this weekend.
According to the Malta International Airport’s weather forecast, wind speeds are expected to reach Force 5 to 6 by Saturday evening and remain strong until at least Tuesday.
As a safety precaution, both feast associations have made changes to their original plans.
In Balluta, the local feast committee announced on Friday that all festive banners around the parish church would be taken down on Saturday.
While Saturday evening’s fireworks are still took place as planned, the Sunday display has been cancelled to ensure public safety.
Meanwhile, in Santa Venera, organisers had already decided earlier in the week not to put up any street decorations due to the incoming weather.
Initially, Sunday’s fireworks were still scheduled to go ahead. However, a last-minute update issued on Saturday by Transport Malta confirmed that the Santa Venera tunnels would remain open, as the fireworks display has now also been cancelled.
Both committees cited public safety as their top priority amid the adverse weather conditions.
