Simon Mizzi, the father of baby Noah who tragically died after a swimming pool accident, has shared a powerful and emotional message expressing gratitude and reflecting on the difficult road ahead.

‘I’ll begin with Noah himself, because through his life, he brought out so much goodness in people. As I’ve told several people, the Maltese people – like any nation – have their flaws, but they possess a quality no one can take from them: solidarity in times of need.’

He thanked the State, the doctors, nurses, carers at CPICU at Mater Dei, the Emergency staff at Gozo General Hospital, the forensic doctor, police, magistrate’s experts, Gozo Channel staff and all the friends and strangers for their support.

‘So I’ll end as I began – with Noah.Noah brought unity. He united us because we had someone to rally around. So if you are reading this, look around you and recognise that there is someone who lifts you, and someone you can lift – through your love or your friendship.’

‘Start by giving, not by asking. No amount of money can buy that feeling. There is no greater joy than knowing someone has your back, even when you don’t realise it. From thorns, come roses. Few people know, but three weeks ago, on my father’s birthday, I lost him. On my own birthday, I lost my son, Noah.’

‘And I choose not to ask “why me?”, “how could this happen to me?”, or “why our son?” I choose to live, and ask instead, “Where do I go from here?” And that answer, with Noah’s help and the joy he brought us, must be one path only – the path of light, not darkness. Even though right now, the easier path is the one shrouded in darkness. But Noah was light. I choose to find the courage to keep cherishing my family, to raise our three other children, and to be present for them. God willing, we will find a new normal.
