European Commission Disburses €48.7 Million To Malta Under NextGenerationEU Programme

The European Commission has given €48.7 million to Malta. This is the third payment as part of the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) a fund created by the European Union to help countries recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Malta received this money because it completed a number of goals, including 11 milestones and 13 targets, based on its National Recovery and Resilience Plan. These goals are part of 15 reforms and 9 investment projects.
The money will be used for important national projects, such as; making free public transport more available, buying electric vehicles for the government, improving public schools by renovating them, buying new medical equipment and starting a hearing test programme for newborns, updating the court system with new technology, fighting against money laundering.
Malta has received €215 million in total from the RRF. This is about 66% of the full amount Malta will get, which is €328 million.
The EU says this funding will help Malta grow its economy, become stronger in the long term, and complete important changes and improvements.
Minister for European Funds, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, said the government is using this money to create real benefits for the people of Malta and Gozo. He also said that Malta must keep working hard to make sure all of the funds are used properly.
The RRF is a €723.8 billion fund created by the EU to help all member countries recover after COVID-19 and to support a greener and more digital future.
