Nearly 36,000 young people will soon have the opportunity to explore Europe for free through DiscoverEU, an initiative by the European Commission.

Applications are now open for 18-year-olds born between July 1, 2006, and June 30, 2007, who reside in the EU or Erasmus+ associated countries.

The deadline to apply is April 16, 2025, at 12:00 CEST via the European Youth Portal, where candidates must complete a short quiz about the EU.

Successful applicants will receive a travel pass allowing them to explore Europe by train for up to 30 days between July 2025 and September 2026.

They can create their own route or follow themed journeys such as the New European Bauhaus Route or the Green Route, which highlights eco-friendly destinations.

A discount card provides savings on transport, accommodation, museums, and more.

DiscoverEU ensures inclusivity, offering special support for participants with disabilities, health conditions, or fewer opportunities.

Since its launch in 2018, the initiative has provided 355,000 travel passes. Participants can join the #DiscoverEU community to share experiences and travel tips.

The Department of Information (DOI) took to social media to share photos of the days when the milkman made rounds door-to-door in Malta.

‘These old-school milk vans were a familiar sight, delivering fresh milk straight to your doorstep’, the DOI shared.

The black-and-white photos take it back to people buying milk directly from the source out on the roads.
