Energy Quest: Peter Magro’s Post-Apocalyptic Teddy Bear Graphic Novel

Maltese educator and comic creator Peter Magro, is making his mark on the island’s growing comic book scene. An art lecturer by profession.

Magro is best known for his self-published indie series Energy Quest a post-apocalyptic graphic novel featuring Zero, a robot teddy bear on a quest for survival in a ruined world.

Magro made his publishing debut in 2015 as the illustrator of STEAM: Island Under Siege, however, Energy Quest has since become his defining work. Three issues have been released, with the fourth scheduled to launch at this year’s Malta Comic Con.

The series blends science fiction and Western influences, exploring themes of survival, humanity and artificial intelligence. While Zero represents resilience and adaptability, his nemesis—the Hive—symbolises greed and corruption.

Beyond storytelling, Magro champions comics as both an educational tool and a platform for cultural expression. Through the Graphic Novels Library Malta (GNLM), which he now runs, he supports young creators with workshops and publications.

Magro hopes to complete Energy Quest and continue fostering Malta’s comic culture, ensuring local voices find their place in global graphic storytelling.
