The 2024 Emmy Awards celebrated television’s best, with “Hacks” and “Shōgun” emerging as major winners.

FX’s “The Bear,” which led with 23 nominations (the most ever for a comedy series), won key categories including best lead actor, supporting actor and actress, but HBO’s “Hacks” claimed the top honour for best comedy series.

“Shōgun,” which had the most nominations of any show with 25, dominated the night by winning best drama series.

Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai took home best actor and actress in a drama series. With its Creative Arts Emmy wins, “Shōgun” set a record, earning 18 total Emmys for its first season, the most ever for a single season.

The ceremony marked the second Emmy event of the year, following the delayed 75th Primetime Emmy Awards held in January due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023. Hosted by Dan and Eugene Levy of “Schitt’s Creek,” the event was broadcast live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on ABC.

Initially, Trump downplayed Swift’s endorsement, saying he wasn’t a fan, but as polls show Harris gaining ground, he escalated his criticism.

Swift’s endorsement garnered over nine million likes, sparking speculation that it could influence the election.

However, many argue that celebrity endorsements have limited impact on voter decisions, especially since Swift’s fans likely lean Democratic already.

Following Trump’s outburst, Twitter and other social media platforms exploded with posts by supporters of the singer, sharing memes and using quotes from her own songs to poke fun at the Republican nominee.

Trump Safe After Apparent Assassination Attempt In Florida

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was safe after the Secret Service foiled an apparent assassination attempt while he was golfing in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Secret Service agents spotted and fired on a gunman, later reportedly identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, hiding in bushes near the course. The gunman fled, leaving behind an AK-47-style rifle and other items, but was apprehended shortly after.

This incident follows an earlier attempt on Trump’s life during a rally in Pennsylvania, where he sustained a minor ear injury.

The attack raises questions about the security measures for presidential candidates, especially given Trump’s non-officeholder status, which limits the extent of his protection.

Both Trump and his associates expressed gratitude for the Secret Service’s quick response. Law enforcement agencies have not confirmed Routh’s motive, but social media profiles linked to him suggest he supported Ukraine and criticised U.S. politicians, including President Joe Biden.

President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the situation, with Harris condemning the violence. This comes as Trump and Harris face off in a highly polarised election, adding to concerns about candidate safety.
