Years after becoming one of the most iconic soundbytes in Maltese culture, Eileen Montesin has finally taken to social media to reveal the true identity of the iconic ‘Ara Doris’.

The phrase, known by virtually anyone who has experienced Maltese lore online, stems from Eileen Montesin’s presentation of the Valletta Carnival in 2006. Whilst presenting the show, Montesin took a little pause to say hello to her friend Doris and, the rest is history.

This week, the Maltese media personality shared an old snap of the two when they were young, wishing her ‘true friend’ a happy birthday.

“This is the famous Doris which I say hello to during carnival”, Montesin wrote in one of her recent throwback posts.

The Cleansing Department conducted some impressive work this weekend, tidying up Birkirkara’s streets in less than an hour following the village’s vibrant St. Helen feast celebrations.

Malta Records, a popular page documenting local achievements, took to social media to commend the department’s employees, who swiftly restored order after the lively festivities. The cleansing took place soon after a record was achieved for paper-throwing during the village’s feast celebrations.

The page lauded the workers, stating, “This is the beauty of Maltese feasts. Let’s roll up our sleeves, stay young and enjoy the traditions and culture left by our ancestors.”

This week, Birkirkara was a sea of red and green, representing the village’s two band clubs, as residents came together in a spirited celebration.

Scarlett Johansson Spotted in Malta

American film star Scarlett Johansson is in Malta and has been spotted at a Valletta jewellery store.

Gold Price Malta took to Facebook on Saturday to thank the actress for her presence, sharing a snap with Johansson. “It was simply a pleasure and honor to have you at our shop”, the post read, as many took to the comments to welcome the actress.

Johansson’s presence in Malta is due to her lead role on the upcoming Jurassic World film, which she is also set to produce.

The actress’s husband, SNL host Colin Jost, was also seen in Malta a few days ago as part of a gag surrounding the Paris Olympics.

This will be the second Jurassic World movie to be filmed in Malta, with the last iteration in Jurassic World: Dominion having welcomed Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and more to the island for the third-highest-grossing film of 2022.

The next Jurassic World is expected to be released in 2025.

Watch: Maltese Racer Duncan Micallef Breaks European Speed Record

Duncan Micallef has once again made headlines, this time by setting a new European speed record at the Scandinavian Internationals held at the Tierp Arena, an official round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship.

The Maltese racer delivered another outstanding performance as he continues his pursuit of a second FIA European Drag Racing Championship title.

Micallef secured pole position with a remarkable time of 3.79 seconds, reaching an incredible speed of 517,24 km per hour. This achievement shattered the previous European speed record of 321.01 mph, held by Finland’s Ida Zetterström.

In addition to breaking the speed record, Micallef’s final time was 0.10 seconds faster than the previous European time record set by Zetterström, further solidifying his status as a top contender in the sport.

Beyond his accomplishments on the track, Micallef also serves as the head of the Malta Motorsport Federation and was recently elected as the chair of the FIA’s Drag Racing Commission, underscoring his extensive expertise and leadership in the world of drag racing.
