Minister for Education Clifton Grima returned to his childhood primary school in San Ġwann this morning as the school welcomed students for the second day of the new scholastic year.

Speaking during his visit, Grima said he felt proud to have once been a student at the school, recalling fond memories of his own teachers and classmates.

“When you walk into these classrooms, you can’t help but remember your own childhood, the educators who taught us, the classmates who sat beside us. It fills you with joy and renews those memories, but at the same time you see new generations of children growing, thanks to the love and education they are receiving,” he said.

The Minister highlighted the crucial role of all Ministry employees in ensuring that schools provide the best possible environment for students and teachers. He explained that maintenance and upgrades are no longer limited to summer works, but carried out throughout the year.

Facilities now include improved sports infrastructure, technological and climate systems, all designed to create the best conditions for both students and educators.

Grima also expressed his satisfaction at meeting students from different backgrounds, each with their own story, saying their energy provides the motivation to continue working hard in the sector.

He added that government investment is aimed not only at improving schools for daily learning, but also at making them community hubs, accessible throughout the week for various activities. “Our vision is to fill these buildings with life,” Grima said, underlining his commitment to ensuring schools remain vibrant spaces for both students and the wider community.
