This morning, the EDU Infrastructure Programme was officially launched, marking the government’s commitment to modernising and maintaining over 100 schools over 13 years.
Each year, the initiative will fund eight projects, with €7 million allocated annually across different schools, each with its own priorities.
The projects will also emphasise sustainability by integrating energy-efficient systems and environmentally sustainable materials.
“This ambitious project is a direct investment in educators and students, improving both indoor and outdoor school environments while prioritising well-being,” said Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation, Clifton Grima.
He highlighted that this initiative aligns with the National Education Strategy, placing individuals at the centre of education.
Minister Grima noted that recent years have seen an unprecedented €152 million investment in 40 educational infrastructure projects since 2013. As announced in Budget 2025, several ongoing projects are underway alongside extensive summer maintenance work.
Following the inauguration of the €24 million Msida Primary School, the €18 million Rabat, Gozo educational complex will soon be officially opened, along with Gozo’s first state childcare centre.
The programme will also modernise indoor and outdoor sports facilities, encouraging their use for diverse learning activities while ensuring the well-being of students and educators.
