Health and Active Aging Minister Jo Etienne Abela announced the launch of a new SPECT-CT Scanning service at Mater Dei Hospital, made possible through a one million euro investment in advanced equipment and technology.
This new service will enhance the specialised offerings of the Radiology Department at Mater Dei Hospital.
The minister explained that this cutting-edge technology allows specialists to pinpoint conditions and diseases with greater accuracy, enabling clear and detailed diagnoses that lead to timely and specialised treatment.
Minister Jo Etienne Abela highlighted that this technology is set to be utilised across various medical fields, including orthopaedics, endocrinology, pulmonology, cardiology, and cancer care.
“This investment supports the government’s vision for Mater Dei Hospital to continue developing its potential as a center of excellence in secondary and tertiary healthcare. I extend my thanks to all the administrative and technical staff who prepared this project in such a short time,” the minister stated.
Dr. Andrew Mallia, Consultant Nuclear Medicine Physician, emphasised the significance of this innovative service and underscored the benefits that patients will experience, thanks to this advanced technology that will deliver more precise results and specialised care.
