Opposition leader Bernard Grech has promised that a new Nationalist government will be investing €1 billion to create 10 new economic sectors to help Malta’s economy.

Despite not going into detail about the 10 new economic sectors, Grech said that a government under his administration will work to ensure better jobs and opportunities for everyone.

The nationalist party leader made his promise during the official electoral campaign, speaking to supporters in front of his headquarters as they carried placards with the slogan ‘Miegħek għal Malta’.

Grech said that the Labour Party thought it would find the PN unprepared but said that his party was ready and prepared for an election. ‘Not only did the government not create new economic sectors, it also jeopardised those crated by previous PN governments, such as financial, gaming and maritime, due to grey listing and corruption.’

With a political activity planned for Valletta on Monday at 6pm, Grech said that his party prepared a positive campaign which will bring hope to all. ‘A campaign in which you will be the protagonist’ said Grech.

€700 million investment to create new green lungs in urban areas by PL

€700 million investment to create new green lungs in urban areas by PL

As part of its electoral package, the Labour Party under Robert Abela, has promised a €700 million investment over seven years to create new green spaces in Malta’s urban areas.Addressing media just hours after announcing the general election for March 26th, Abela launched the proposal along with four others as his ‘ambitious plan’.

A labour government would see €700 million planted over 7 years to give Malta’s urban spaces ‘green lungs’ to ensure residents would not need to drive their car to spend time in a open public space. Parks, urban green reclamation projects, urban greening initiatives, green areas spread over car tunnels and car free areas would all make up part of this investment. This would accompany already promised infrastructural plans.

The other proposals include a reduction in taxes, with tax bands which could see workers and self-employed getting an extra annual €225, up to a maximum of €365.

Parents will be exempted from paying tax on the first €12,200 each year. Abela said that this would translate into a further €66 million in people’s pockets each year. Other proposals concern pensioners getting an extra €15 per week and becoming automatically eligible to all medicines on government formulary for free among other proposals. Abela revealed that all of the five proposals would cost €1.39 billion over five years and are set to be financed through money generated by new job creation and economical strengthening.

Dr. Edward Curmi is also the author of 2 self-help books titled Ed’s Common Sense.

1. If success hasn’t happened by now, it never will.

2. Someone else is doing it, so I can’t do it now!

Does this mean St Patrick’s Day celebrations are back?

Does this mean St Patrick’s Day celebrations are back?
Feb 20 2022 Share

Is this the official return of St Patrick’s Day celebrations? With the announcement of the March general election came the reveal that Prime Minister Robert Abela wants Malta to return back to normal in spring.

The Prime Minister revealed that mass events will be occurring on a weekly basis as the election draws nearer and hinted at the removal of all COVID restrictions as the days go on.

Opposition leader Bernard Grech too urged the Prime Minister to remove the restrictions for all events and not just political rallies. These include everything from sports to cultural gatherings.

Given that we have not had a St Patrick’s Day celebration for 2 years now due to the COVID-19 pandemic, does this mean that lovers of beer and this special day will get to properly celebrate it again?

St Patrick’s Day in Malta is known to attract a massive crowd, especially in areas such as Malta’s entertainment Mecca Paceville. It is still quite unsure yet but indications show that such celebrations can now take place following the Prime Minister’s rallying call.
