‘Whilst patrolling the area around Red Tower, rangers from the Malta Ranger Unit came upon some expats who had found an entangled turtle whilst fishing’, the rescue team revealed on social media.

The rangers contacted the wildlife rescue team, and a rescue operation for the turtle was conducted to bring the marine animal to the Xrobb L-Ghagin Nature Park and Wildlife Rehab Centre.

The turtle was named coral, and had severe constriction on her left front flipper along with a deep cut on her right front flipper.

‘Coral is now under the care of our vet Dr Grupetta’, the rescue team revealed. ‘We will try our best to save the left flipper, but we first have to see if it responds to treatment.’

All animals rescued by the team are protected species, making it illegal to keep them as pets.

‘ If you spot any of the wild animals that we rescue injured or in danger, please call the Wildlife Rescue Team on 99999505.’

Maltese driver Jesmar Gafa achieved a historic milestone at the Coupe Intercontinentale des Amateurs, an international race that unites 14 amateur drivers from across Europe. Representing Malta, Gafa was selected by the Malta Racing Club to compete in this prestigious event, held as part of the special racing weekend leading up to the renowned Prix d’Amérique in France.

Driving horse number 10, GUEPARD GRIFF, Gafa delivered an exceptional performance, securing second place in the competitive race. Starting from the second row behind the autostart, Gafa skillfully positioned his horse on the outside lane, maintaining a steady pace. As the final 700 metres approached, he urged GUEPARD GRIFF into a powerful surge, challenging for the lead. Despite stiff competition, his efforts paid off when a disqualification in the leading ranks propelled him to second place.

Germany’s Sarah Kube claimed victory with GIZMOGOLD, while Italy’s Matteo Zaccherini finished third with HUNADORA.

Gafa’s achievement marks the best-ever result by a Maltese driver in this prestigious competition. “It’s an incredible honor to represent Malta on this stage,” Gafa shared, reflecting on the experience. His success not only highlights his talent but also puts Malta firmly on the map in the world of amateur racing.
