“Don’t believe them when they say they have learned from the past”; PN President Martina Caruana

This evening, large crowds took to the streets of Malta’s capital city for one final Nationalist Party rally ahead of the official general election date on Saturday.

During the Valletta event, Nationalist Party President Martina Caruana took to the stage to address the crowds in attendance, telling them not to believe the Labour Party when they say they have learned from the past. The lawyer and policy advisor sarcastically commented on how Labour state that they cherish the environment and support mental health, going on to state that the Nationalist Party truly believes in such causes.

Caruana highlighted the Nationalist Party’s belief that the people are at the centre of the party’s politics and no longer should the people be forgotten by the government. She appealed to the people to go vote because they deserve nothing less than the best in each sector, and to vote because they know that the Nationalist Party is the natural home of the Maltese and Gozitans.

Crowd erupts as Mary Spiteri takes Labour meeting stage to sing Ġensna theme

Large crowds of Labour Party supporters erupted into thunderous applause and chanting as local singer Mary Spiteri hit the stage at the Labour meeting in MFCC to sing the ever-familiar Ġensna ’79.

Spiteri took the stage to chants of ‘Viva l-Labour’ before she began singing with what seemed like the entire venue singing along to the tune. Spiteri joins the likes of fellow Maltese artists to hit the stage at the Labour Party meeting such as Ozzy Lino, Gaia Cauchi, Klinsmann Coleiro, Janvil, Amber, Megan and many more.

Both parties are currently holding their last political meeting prior to Saturday’s official election date, with hopes to bring supporters and non-voters closer to the party before March 26th, all while many have seemed to distance themselves from this year’s campaign.

Labour candidate accused of posting €10 fuel vouchers with campaign flyers; denies involvement

Labour Party candidate Edward Cassar Delia has come under fire with allegations of distributing €10 fuel vouchers with his campaign flyers in his respective districts. The Second and Third district candidate has since denied distributing vouchers, stating that the signature is not his.

The voucher in question entitles recipients to €10 in fuel from Auto Hub Limited in Marsa and, if distributed by a candidate, would be in breach of the General Elections Act which states that anyone giving or providing food, drink, entertainment or provision with intent of influencing voting behaviour would be liable to a €1,160 fine or a six month prison sentence.

Giving, lending or promising any monetary amount to voters with intent to sway voting preference would also be considered as bribery.

WATCH: Peppi Azzopardi posts video urging voters to reduce Labour gap over Nationalist Party

In a video posted on the Xarabank Facebook page, media personality Peppi Azzopardi gave a passionate speech mainly addressed to young voters with hopes to shrink the sizeable gap between Labour and PN.

Azzopardi began the video by addressing watchers who may be unfamiliar of him, stating that while there may be people who state that he is a PN supporter in the comments, he protested against both parties in his youth and regardless of which political party one supports, he will ‘state facts.’

Peppi argued that the Panama Papers scandal would not have happened if Labour hadn’t won the 2013 election with the historic voting gap of 36,000 votes, going on to state that Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination was put on hold pending the 2017 election and back on the moment Labour was confirmed to win.

The popular television personality stated that while it is probable that Labour will win the election, voters should still go out and exercise their right in an attempt to reduce the gap.

“If everyone had to take part, we would have this situation. Labour in government but with a smaller gap.”

Azzopardi appealed to anyone who is watching to find at least one to convince voting in order to decrease the gap between the two parties.
