Project Green has received approval from the Planning Authority to develop a new multifunctional green space on Triq Nerik Scerri in Kirkop, a site previously designated for development.

The project was transferred to Project Green by the Lands Authority, alongside three other sites in Lija, Luqa, and Ta’ Giorni, to create green spaces in urbanised areas.

A tender for the project will soon be issued, and work will begin on transforming the 1,600-square-meter site into a community-friendly park.

The garden will be located within a 10-minute walk for about 300 households and will focus on sustainability.

It will feature 59 trees to provide natural shading and eco-friendly, porous pathways for walking and cycling. Approximately 75% of the materials used will be sustainably sourced, and a water reservoir will be added for efficient irrigation.

Designed to cater to all ages, the park will include interactive play zones, a treehouse for children, herb gardens, and pollinator-friendly areas.

Picnic benches will provide resting spots for visitors. Environment Minister Miriam Dalli emphasised the goal of ensuring every community has access to green spaces within a 10-minute walk. CEO Joseph Cuschieri highlighted the project’s role in creating sustainable, community-focused spaces that enhance both ecological impact and quality of life for Kirkop residents.

Farrugia scored four goals across all competitions in October, including her award-winning strike against Bristol City and two crucial goals at Blackburn Rovers, which secured Blades’ first win of the season.

Farrugia’s campaign began with a brilliant goal in the Women’s League Cup against Sunderland, followed by her stunning effort against Bristol City at Bramall Lane, a deft touch and clinical strike into the top corner earning her the Goal of the Month award.

Two weeks later, she scored twice at Blackburn, the first showcasing impressive skill and the second a precise finish to seal the team’s first points of the season.

“I’m really proud,” said Farrugia. “It means a lot, especially after the loss of my grandmother. I want to dedicate these awards to her. This is a proud moment for me, and I want to thank my teammates and staff – I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Minister for National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government Owen Bonnici revealed details of the ambitious Culture and Arts Centre project in Marsa, a key initiative designed to foster and elevate the arts and culture in Malta for years to come.

The project, valued at €15 million, will be funded with European funds during its first phase of development.

The Culture and Arts Centre aims to be more than just a venue for artistic expression; it will serve as a vibrant community hub that brings culture closer to the Maltese people.

The centre will host a wide range of cultural events, exhibitions, and performances, providing a platform for Maltese artists, creatives, and local performers, including those involved in Carnival traditions.

It will offer an opportunity for collaboration and help drive the creative economy forward, strengthening Malta’s position as a cultural destination.

Minister Bonnici expressed his belief that the centre will be a vital cornerstone for the nation’s identity, saying, “This centre will stand as a living tribute to our creative spirit and community values, inspiring future generations.”

Aaron Zahra, Chairman of Festivals Malta, highlighted the project’s importance, stating that it would significantly expand opportunities for Malta’s cultural and artistic sectors.

Frans Agius, Executive Director of Festivals Malta, emphasised that the centre would also be a space for dialogue and innovation among local artists, contributing significantly to the growth of Malta’s creative industries.
