Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Dr Ian Borg, addressed the launch of the ACE’s Research & Economic Outlook A Restaurants’ Patrons’ Survey 2025 on Wednesday, emphasising the importance of quality, sustainability, and innovation in Malta’s catering and hospitality sectors.

The nationwide survey, conducted by the Association of Catering Establishments (ACE), gathered responses from 500 individuals 400 local patrons and 100 tourists. It offers valuable insights into customer behaviour, preferences, and expectations, while also identifying the strengths and challenges currently facing the sector.

Speaking at the event, Dr Borg stated that the findings clearly show that “excellence and quality are crucial factors for those choosing to experience Malta’s gastronomical offering.” He described the data not just as informative, but as a strategic tool to guide the industry’s future development.

“Our restaurants are far more than just places to eat they are spaces of celebration, of culture, and of human connection. They embody the essence of Mediterranean identity, where tradition and modernity meet on every plate.” Dr Borg said.

He also took the opportunity to praise the people behind Malta’s vibrant culinary scene chefs, restaurant owners, front-of-house staff, and hospitality workers calling them “storytellers, entrepreneurs, and custodians of our cultural and culinary legacy.”

Highlighting ongoing efforts to improve standards, Dr Borg referenced the Skills Pass initiative, which continues to raise the bar for service excellence in collaboration with industry stakeholders.
