Death Toll Surpasses 800 After Morocco 6.8 Magnitude Earthquake

A magnitude 6.8 earthquake has struck Morocco, with at least 820 people reported dead in latest reports by the country’s interior ministry.

With the epicentre in the High Atlas Mountains, the earthquake struck at around 2311hrs local time, with a 4.9 aftershock 19 minutes later.

‘The interior ministry said the earthquake killed people in the provinces and municipalities of al-Haouz, Marrakesh, Ouarzazate, Azilal, Chichaoua and Taroudant, adding that more than 600 people have been injured.’

Many of the citizens spent the night out in the open following warnings by the Moroccan government to avoid going back into their homes due to the risk of aftershocks and further collapses.

Reports of families trapped under the rubble are also increasing, with hospitals receiving an influx of injured people and the authorities calling for blood donations.

Rabat’s Triq L-Imgħallem Rebuilt & Finished

At a cost of nearly €1 million, the 450-meter-long road connecting Victoria and Żebbuġ in Gozo has undergone extensive reconstruction and resurfacing. Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri officially inaugurated the revitalized Triq L-Imgħallem and announced the successful completion of the road improvement project.

Camilleri emphasized that attention would now turn towards constructing a new junction connecting Triq ta’ Wara s-Sur and Triq Wied Sara, with the aim of permanently eliminating a traffic bottleneck.

In addition to resurfacing Triq l-Imgħallem, the project included the reconstruction of sidewalks, enhancements to parking spaces and bus stops, restoration of rubble walls, and the installation of new water and sewage pipelines, telecommunications infrastructure, and street lighting.

Furthermore, newly constructed culverts have been implemented to gather rainwater from the Ċittadella and Għolja ta’ Gelmus areas, directing it towards Wied il-Grazzja, where it can be utilized for agricultural irrigation purposes.

The entire undertaking was conducted under the diligent oversight of the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, according to the ministry.

Johnny Depp Made $20 Million To Be Face Of Sauvage

Following a long acting hiatus and a highly publicised court case agains his ex-wife Amber Heard, 60 year old Johnny Depp is making comeback after comeback – and one of them paid off heftily.

The Pirates of The Caribbean actor has just been featured in a new commercial for the Dior fragrance Sauvage called ‘The Call Of The Blazing Sun’.

His paycheck? It is estimated that Depp was paid a whopping $20 million to once again be the face of the brand.

Depp has just come off the winning ends of the Depp-Heard court case, with the jury awarding him $15 million in damages and Heard bagging $2 million.

But now, Dior are said to have signed a three year deal with the actor, worth more than $20 million, making it the biggest men’s fragrance deal ever reported.

To compare, Robert Pattinson made $12 million to serve as Dior Homme’s spokesperson, whereas Brad Pitt promoted Chanel No. 5 through $7 million.

It is understood that Depp’s deal could be the actor’s route back onto the big screen.

Have You Ever Spotted This House During Naxxar Feast?

Unfortunately, do to the weather and its forecast being unfavourable, this magnificent house’s decorations could not be set up for long this year.

The house was set up ahead of the feast as is done each year by Malcolm Pirotta, turning heads by everyone who attends the local feast.

The house is even more impressive when lit up at night, with the red hues shining throughout the street as Pirotta joins his fellow Naxxar residents in celebration of the feast.

Unfortunately, you will have to wait till next year to see it live again due to the weather being a hazard to the decorations. Have you ever spotted it?
