Journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia was assassinated eight years ago today, on the 16th of October 2017.

A march and vigil is set to be held today in Valletta to honour the memory of the late journalist and call for justice.

‘Malta must hold to account those who ordered and carried out her murder, and dismantle the systems that enabled it’, wrote the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation.

‘In 2021, the public inquiry into Daphne’s murder found the Maltese State responsible for her death because it failed to protect her despite clear threats to her life. That finding gave Malta a historic chance: to move from being the country known for a journalist’s assassination to one recognised for how it responded to that national trauma.’

However, the Foundation said, more than four ears later, that obligation remains unfulfilled.

‘Our voices will be heard today, in Bidnija at 3.00 p.m. and this evening in Valletta. We all have a voice, we need to use that voice for good, against corruption and wrongdoing, and for justice. For Daphne, and for us all’, said Occupy Justice Malta.
