Nov 11 2024 Share

Malta’s theatre has achieved a new milestone with Mid-Djarju ta’ Student fi Skola tal-Knisja, Jamie Cardona’s one-man show, now the longest-running production in Maltese history.

Since its April 2024 premiere, this candid and humorous portrayal of Maltese adolescence has sold out each performance, and with more dates scheduled for January 2025, it will reach a record-breaking 53 shows.

Malta Records will recognise this achievement by awarding an official record certification to Cardona during the January run.

The show has resonated deeply with audiences, exploring Cardona’s teenage years at a church school. Through his diary, the narrative unfolds with a blend of humour and introspection, following his character’s exploration of faith, morality, relationships, and adolescent insecurities.

Directed by Vikesh Godhwani and written by Cardona, the production has connected strongly with audiences for its relatable and comedic look at the slow journey of personal growth.

The overwhelming demand and continuous ticket sellouts highlight Mid-Djarju ta’ Student fi Skola tal-Knisja as a landmark in Maltese theatre, showcasing both the rising popularity of local productions and the power of Maltese theatre to engage audiences in fresh, impactful ways.
