Customs canines sniff out €31,410 in undeclared cash

The Customs canines are on a roll as they manage to intercept €31,410 worth of undeclared cash at the Malta International Airport.

First off was Gypsy, who had a positive reaction towards two Syrian passengers travelling to Erbil, Iraq. One of the passengers was approached by Customs Officials and asked to declare how much money he was carrying.

He replied by saying that he had €7,000, but a thorough search led to the discovery of €8,0000 in a small bag her was carrying and another €2,095 in checked-in luggage. The other Syrian passenger was found to be carrying €10,130 in undeclared cash.

Meanwhile, Charlie managed to intercept €11,185 in undeclared cash after giving a positive indication towards a Somali passenger. The passenger was travelling to Dakar via Istanbul and was stopped by Customs for a currency check.

He declared he was carrying around €7,000 but a thorough search led to the discovery of €11,185 in undeclared cash. All three passengers were offered out-of-court settlement to which they agreed and singed and were administered a fine.

MCAST students raising money to donate easter goodies to kids in hospital

After the success of last year’s event which saw €800 raised, the EGGCITING EASTER returns for the 2nd year.

The MCAST Student Council (KSM) decided to relaunch the initiative during the Easter period to help children in hospitals and hopefully put a smile on their faces.

The group will be collecting Easter gas and monetary donations to deliver them to the children.

Marsa shows great sportsmanship to honour Zebbug as league winners

In a video clip uploaded to social media by Jurgen D’Amato, Marsa’s football team showed great sportsmanship when honouring the league winners Żebbug Rangers.

The players and staff of the former team stood and welcomed their adversaries as they entered the pitch for the last match between them.

Żebbug Rangers won the Group B Challenge League with a comfortable advantage over Pieta Hotspurs, making this match against Marsa a simple formality.

With Żebbug Rangers promoted to the Premier Championships, their opponents for their last match recognised the team’s successful run with this respectful gesture. Kudos to Marsa FC for showing us what true sportsmanship looks like.

Check out Malta Football Association’s fresh new logo

The Malta Football Association has unveiled its brand new face through the unveiling of a fresh logo which will be used by the national teams and the association itself.

The rebranding for the local association was motivated by the strategy for Maltese Football 2020-2024 ‘We Can Perform Better’. It will be giving a new identity to the Malta Football Association which respects and highlights the history and tradition whilst also keeping the eight-pointed cross at the centre.

The association revealed that the mindset behind the national team’s brand is to reflect the competitiveness and sacrifice undertaken by the team. The aim is to use football to build a positive spirit and a clear image of the nation.

This comes after the MFA was found to have up to €7.8 million in expenses and an income of €6.2 million between April and December of last year. As a consequence, a deficit of €2.2 million was recorded.

The reason behind these financial consequences were the COVID-19 pandemic, which in turn saw last season being cancelled before it’s natural period.

President of the Association Bjorn Vassallo announced that the MFA will be embarking on a plan of recovery to acquire financial stability through several incentives aimed at reducing expenses in the MFA’s budget for 2022.

The MFA will still continue to work towards sustainability through funds by FIFA and UEFA without negatively impacting technical or developmental projects as well as the financial aid to clubs and football associations.
