Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri stated that around 42,000 people visited Gozo following the lifting of various restrictions. Replying to questions in parliament, the Minister stated that a very good summer is expected for Gozo as the tourism seems to be flowing even before the second round of consumer vouchers is issued. Only residents and people on work were allowed to cross to Gozo, with recreational purposes being restricted before last weekend.

With the launch of the fast ferry service also providing an alternative access to the island, the Minister stated that tourists and workers will benefit greatly from these services. The eco-friendly passenger crafts by Gozo Fast Ferry Ltd will be able to carry 300 people to Gozo in just 45 minutes.

New bee pollination garden to be installed in San Gwann

New bee pollination garden to be installed in San Gwann
May 19 2021 Share

Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli announced that a new bee pollination garden is to be set up in San Gwann. With an investment of €300,000, the 1,000 square meter area on the fringes of the locality will be transformed to encourage bees to pollinate and create honey. The area is located on Triq tal-Prepostu, and will be garnered with carob, almond and Judas trees along with aromatic herbs which encourage herbs.

Specific enclosures within the garden itself will also serve to educate visitors about pollination and how it contributes to the overall ecological food chain. San Gwann local council will be receiving the aid of Parks Malta in planting, watering, pruning and plant maintenance.

Minister Dalli highlighted the educational and ecological benefits of this initiative, whilst also stating that this will give back immense benefits to the environment and Maltese society itself. With the decline of bees not only locally but globally, honeybees are a vital organism to a sustainable future, pollinating 80% of crops.
