Couples offered €2000 wedding payments to get married in Rome

Wedding costs are a well-known burden many couples face as they work on tying the knot on their relationship. That, as well as finding the perfect romantic destination to celebrate the occasion.

Now, Italian city Lazio, which also happens to share Rome as the capital city with the entirety of Italy, is offering couples around €2000 to get married in the region.

The offer is also available for both local and international couples and the pair can redeem the money on wedding items such as dresses, flowers, decorations, cake and even photography.

The deal has been made valid until the 31st of December of this year, with the fund limited to €10 million. This means that only 5000 couples will get a chance to take advantage of the offer.

The campaign, Nel Lazio Con Amore (In Lazio with Love) has managed to get the €10 million in COVID recovery funds and is attempting to help couples seal their marriage and boost the economy.

Couples can even put a maximum of €700 towards their honeymoon. There is a catch however as couples must spend the money with Lazio-based firms.

Lazio itself is a site of massive historic value, attracting tourists from all over the globe. The sites on offer include the eternal city of Rome as the main classic, but also other gems such as the Civita di Bagnoregio or the Etruscan (pre-Roman) tombs.

Paceville and St Julian’s are up for a major facelift in Labour’s manifesto

Releasing their electoral manifesto, the Labour Party have pledged to engage in extensive works for both Paceville and St Julian’s.

Both these zones are known for the amount of people they attract, given that Paceville is considered the Entertainment Mecca of the island. And following the unveiling of the manifesto, the Labour Party have proposed more works to take place in the zone.

As explained in the manifesto, Paceville’s main square as well as Spinola Bay and St. George’s bay will be receiving a major revamp to attract more tourists and provide more accessible areas for families to enjoy.

Spinola Square will itself transform into an open space for families if the party is given the vote into parliament, with major restoration works to take place on Spinola Palace. Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo had previously spoken about a €5.5 million investment to regenerate these same areas alluded to in the manifesto.

Visuals released by Bartolo back in July of 2021 showed the areas getting a complete transformation. The tourism minister described how Palazzo Spinola will serve as a gorgeous backdrop to the garden as well as creating a multipurpose hub for the community.

Permanent Secretary within the Ministry for Tourism Ronald Mizzi had stated that this is part of a holistic plan to breathe new life into the Paceville area, with works expected to finish by the end of 2024.

Labour pledge to increase Ghadira bay and revamp promenade

Releasing their new electoral manifesto, the Labour Party have pledged to increase the size of the Għadira bay as well as revamp the bay’s promenade to make it more accessible.

In their new manifesto, the party have stated that if elected to government, the popular sandy Għadira beach would be made more accessible for families to enjoy given that it is usually packed with swimmers in summer.

This comes after the Planning Authority approved in 2021 a smaller extension of the bay as part of a pilot study, three years after former tourism minister Konrad Mizzi proposed the extension of the beach.

Mizzi’s original plans aimed to extend the bay by around 20 to 30 meters along a one kilometre perimeter. The PA had instead approved a 10-meter extension along the southern side of the beach.

The project which was approved in 2021 was meant to see the extension by around 1,2000 meters by dredging and pumping sand from other parts of the bay. Set to offer a sustainable solution for the increase of tourists, it seems as though the Labour Party will be returning to such plans to revitalise the bay for Maltese and tourist alike.

The proposed measure comes alongside other pledges which involve the restructuring of several areas of Malta, afforestation and even land reclamation projects.

Malta to send six containers of medicines to Ukraine as donations open

The Maltese government will be aiding the Ukrainian people during the invasion of their country by Putin’s Russia by sending six containers packed with medicines and other medical equipment.

Simultaneously, the government will be accepting donations from the Maltese public to help those affected by the war. The government revealed in a statement that it is committed to providing official aid to address the needs and the crisis in Ukraine.

The Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and the Ministry for Home Affairs, National and law Enforcement will be sending six large containers with a value of over €1.15 million in medicines and equipment.

These were provided by the Ministry for Health, the Malta Chamber of Pharmacists and St Thomas Hospital. The Civil Protection Department are coordinating the effort to address the immediate needs of the Ukrainians.

People can still help the cause however, as anyone who wishes to do so can make a financial contribution to the Official Development Assistance fund which is dedicated to this specific crisis.

To ensure that the funds are distributed where required, a bank account administered by the Foreign Affairs Ministry has opened for anyone who wishes to donate. Donators are asked to provide details so as to receive an acknowledgement note.

The government issued gratitude in advance to those individuals and groups who contributed or will be doing so as every little bit of support helps alleviate the suffering caused by the war.
